Why should I hire a CPA to prepare my tax return?
A CPA is not only trained and experienced in the complicated world of taxation,
but license requirements demand continuing education in the field. If you don't own
a home or have investments, own a business or have other sources of outside income,
you probably don't need a CPA - or any accountant - to prepare your tax return.
There are many fine software programs available on the market to help you. However,
when you have assets, investments, life changes, a relocation, income fluctuations,
a business or outside sources of income, the tax deduction and credit options available to
you are numerous and, many times, very confusing.
Cowart, Sargent & Webb, CPAs, has extensive
experience with tax preparation that will ensure that every detail is considered and that you
receive every possible deduction and credit to which you are entitled. A CPA does not have to be
expensive to be good. At Cowart, Sargent & Webb, CPAs, our fee is based on your individual situation,
not hourly rates. After your initial FREE consultation, you'll know the total fee and you'll
be under no obligation to have us continue our service. Return to top

Why does my business need an accountant?
If you are like most business owners, you have knowledge and drive and a strong affinity for your industry;
you know your product inside and out and enjoy promoting it. But every business is in existence to make money,
and every business requires money to keep it alive. Keeping track of the money that you are earning, spending
and saving is crucial to your success. Do you have as much knowledge and drive and affinity for financial
recordkeeping as you do for your company? Many people don't, and for them the nominal cost of having a
professional take care of their all-important financial needs is well worth it.
Even if you have an in-house bookkeeper or your own computer software to take care of daily transactions,
do you know what the numbers actually mean in terms of true profit? Are you up-to-date on the sales and
payroll tax regulations and due dates? Do you understand the different advantages and disadvantages of
operating as a sole proprietorship, a C Corporation, an S Corporation or an LLC? The best auto mechanic
or sporting goods retailer or insurance agent on the block needs to deal with these issues, and many more.
At Cowart, Sargent & Webb, CPAs, we deal with these issues every day. They don't have to be a burden to you
or a distraction from what you enjoy most - building your business. Please call to see how Cowart, Sargent
& Webb, CPAs can help. Return to top

Can I hire an accountant who doesn't live in my area?
Absolutely! A CPA doesn't have to be licensed to practice in any particular state, and Cowart, Sargent & Webb,
CPAs, can provide tax rate tables, forms and instructions for all 50 states. With the availability of fax
machines, e-mail and express delivery services, necessary paperwork can easily be sent from any location.
Also, for many individuals and small business owners, the vast majority of their accountant's work is advisory,
which can be done easily by phone instead of in person. The personal service we offer at Cowart, Sargent & Webb,
CPAs is not limited to clients sitting at the opposite side of the desk! If you are considering forming a Tennessee
corporation, it is of great benefit to you to hire a Tennessee accountant who is fully versed in the regulations and
policies of the state. Please feel free to call for a no-charge appointment if you are heading our way.

What do you mean by professional service with a personal touch?
At Cowart, Sargent & Webb, CPAs our philosophy is when you hire a CPA for his expertise and experience, you are
entitled to personal attention, not only to the job at hand, but to all your financial needs. We are always
accessible to our clients, ready to listen to their questions and concerns, available to give answers and to
research unusual or special circumstances. Our clients know that they can get honest opinions and accurate facts,
or call with tax questions any time of the year and receive prompt answers. There are many large accounting firms
in existence who do excellent work but who use scores of assistants to intercept the majority of inquiries and jobs.
Cowart, Sargent & Webb, CPAs is committed to creating personal, as well as professional, relationships with our clients.
We may not be big or famous. We would rather be very good at what we do, at a competitive price, and be able to offer
our clients the personal attention that they deserve. Return to top
